Recently i was involved in a project called community 101. In this project we were given $5000 to contribute to non-profit organizations of our choosing donated by PGE. (Portland General Electric) I got involved with this project by joining a community service class called peer group at my high school. In this class you spend your time volunteering to help the community. Community 101 helped me become more involved. We started off my choosing what issues we should try and contribute our money to. It came down to our class deciding foster care and homelessness were two major issues we should address. After deciding, it came down to tracking down non-profits that their mission was to tackle these issues. We selected six. We sent applications, and they came to our class to tell us why they should get some of the money, and the project took off from there. From planning site visits to the elegable non-profits, to the award ceremony, community 101 took a lot of time. But from this experience, I learned i’m never to young to lend a hand in the issues of my community. I also learned my voice and opinion is just as important as anyone elses. Everyone has a opinion and all of them should be heard. All i have to do is step out my front door and open my eyes to the millions of opportunities and follow what i have a passion for.
A hero, to many, include a famous sport player, a super hero, a musician or maybe even a celebrity. To me a hero is measured by the good they do for others, expecting nothing in return. These include parents, teachers, church members, friends and even acquaintances. A hero in my life would be my daddy. No matter what is going on, he always makes sure i am ok and goes on a limb for my sisters and I.
My daddy is the best daddy in the whole wide world. He is always there to back all my decisions, from playing soccer (even when i’m injuryed (: ) to school and my friends. He always pushes me to be the best i can be. He knows i can accomplish anything i put my mind to. Even in the midst of my struggles he is encouraging me through it all. He is a very religous, caring, and loving father, and i could not have a better male role model in my life.
My daddy, my hero. (:

I believe animals are born to be free. I agree zoo’s are fun to vistit to see all the crazy, cute, and dangerous animals we might not otherwise get to experience else where, but i also think no animal are meant to be in a cage. But if i could see any wild animal outside a zoo or captivity it would have to be a giraffe.
Giraffes are incredible animals. From their height, to their markings. I would love to see the way they live in the wild. Giraffes are a beautiful creation from god and i hope some day to experience their beauty in a natural habit, where they are free to be the amazingly wonderful wild animals they are.
Yellow, so bright and vivid. A color that stands out, in my opinion, above the rest. Yellow is such a happy color. It reminds me of the bright sun that shines against the blue backdrop on a warm summer day.
The sun, warm and serene, always reminds me of the amazing work God has done in our world. The bright yellow sun always shines on the bright yellow flowers and makes them shine like a pretty creation of God. (:
These warm sun shining days always make me parched, nothing that a cup of cool lemonade could not fix.
Yellow is a very happy color. Who could not be happy when a bright color is around?!? Not i. (:
I believe it is very important to try and stay green to make our earth better. At school i recycle my papers instead of wadding them up and throwing them in the trash. it is a very easy thing to do so i do it. (: and a commitee at our school just made bright green recycling containers and i know that if i ever have anything to recycle i will walk on over to one of those handy dandy green recycling containers. At home i do the same sort of things. I always recycle all our recyclables to try and cut down the ammount of trash im sending to the garbage place. My parents also try to use canvas bags at the grocery store instead of wasting plastic bags and or paper bags. I think everyone should try to stay green to make our home a better, more clean, and happy place for all to enjoy together. (:
the heat flowing from the sun, the scent of sunscreen all around us, time for a swim! Everyones favorite part of the day. I was surrounded by many little girls and boys all exclaiming “Po!… Swim with me!” as i look down at this sweet little five year old and she looked at me, she smiled and began to speak ” Po, Im going to start going to church. You have taught me more about god this week and i want to learn more.” No words could explain the feeling i got. Everyone at camp looks forward to those special kids who get influenced by you and your love for god. It was an amazing feeling of accomplishment.
I listened to “Smack” by Melvin Burgess. The book talk was very intriguing. i found myself on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. The back ground music and sound effects added to this book talk. The different music added to the mood of the story. I enjoyed listening to this podcast because it drew me into the story and left me wanting to read it.
